Essence Martins is a British-Nigerian artist who writes songs that blend the genres of indie-folk, pop and soul. She has a soft ethereal voice and loves to mix organic and synth sounds alongside rich harmonies to create her compositions. After 12 years of pursuing a career in tennis, which took her to the US on a scholarship, Essence recalls re-discovering the pop-punk pioneers Paramore, and the trio’s sense of sweet teenage rebellion that inspired her to find her true identity as a songwriter.

Her simple yet evocative songs cover topics ranging from family, friendships and love, to spirituality and philosophical ideologies. Her music spans both honest and fictional stories that express complex emotions or feel like a warm hug.
