The Brockwell Live Community Fund
Every year, we collect all guest list donations (and contribute an additional sum ourselves) to form the Brockwell Live Community Fund.
This pot of money is spent exclusively on community projects and initiatives, to directly support and improve our local neighbourhood around the Park. Read on for more details on the amazing projects we funded in 2023!
198 Community Arts and Learning
The funds awarded to 198 Community Arts and Learning, located in Herne Hill, will be used to improve the first floor communal area at this valued community art space. As the home to eight different community organisations, the improvements to this space will be highly beneficial to a wide variety of local, community groups doing amazing work in our neighbourhood.
JOM Youth Music
JOM Youth Music is a community of parents who organise free youth open mics for young performers between the ages of 4 and 17. They have curated over 500 acts at sessions at Off The Cuff, Herne Hill, as well as hosting events at other venues and our very own Brockwell Bounce 2023! The Fund will help support this group as they continue to offer free youth music concerts, and give young people a platform to perform.
Sudbourne Parent Teacher Association
We are excited to be funding an exciting project at Sudbourne Primary School, to build an accessible nature garden in the school’s only area of green space. This space will provide children with an area to play and learn whilst immersed in nature, and will include a deck under a large tree which can be used for lessons as an outdoor classroom as well as an area to grow plants and vegetables.
Herne Hill Forum
The wooden train outside of Herne Hill Station will be repaired with funds provided by Brockwell Live, in a refurbishment project managed by Herne Hill Forum and carried out by local tradesmen. The redevelopment of the locally beloved train will be a boost to local businesses and appreciated by families across the area.
Lavender Hope CIC
We are very happy to be funding Lavender Hope CIC, a Tulse Hill-based community organisation which supports the homeless and people struggling financially through providing somewhere for homeless people to stay and for anyone to have a shower, wash their clothes or have a meal. The funds provided will help cover Lavender Hope’s operating costs as they continue to offer a vital resource for the most vulnerable in the local community.
Roupell Park RMO
This project will focus on revitalising gardens on the Roupell Park Estate, and on constructing more planters to grow herbs, flowers and vegetables on the estate, with the aim of improving community’s engagement in sustainable practices and developing the estate’s ecological diversity.
Brockwell Park Miniature Railway
The funds provided by Brockwell Live will be used to purchase a new locomotive and rolling stock to rejuvenate the miniature railway in our Park, and develop this locally cherished attraction.
Brixton BMX Club
We are excited to be funding the Brixton BMX Club, based in Brockwell Park, in order to facilitate resurfacing and repairs on the BMX track. This will be greatly beneficial to the children in the neighbourhood as they can have continued access to this valued sports facility in the community.
Lambeth Living Streets
This project aims to transform the frontage of Hanover Mansions, a sheltered housing unit near Brockwell Park for African and Caribbean elders from Brixton, creating an accessible wildlife area for the benefit of residents and the local community. The funds from Brockwell Live will be used to purchase planters, plants and other materials for residents to make this scheme a reality.
Friends of Loughborough park
Loughborough Park, Brockwell Park’s smaller sister park in Lambeth, plans to improve this valued community space through litter picking, introducing wildlife (including hedgehogs!) and the development of a ‘Living Hedge’, which will be a habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Friends of Rosendale Primary School
We are so pleased to be funding a new musical programme at Rosendale School, close by to Brockwell Park. This scheme will deliver exciting, specialist music teaching by visiting professionals to children who were inspired by the performances at the Lambeth Country Show this year, helping develop musical learning in the community.
Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses
The BPCG project is focused on developing the learning garden in Brockwell Park which is usable in all weathers, and is a valuable educational resource for children in the community. The project aims to educate families on plants and the environment, and the funds will be used to support the ongoing operations of this important community space.
Arlingford and Brailsford Road Residents Association
The funds from Brockwell Live will be contributed towards the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the Community Gardens between Arlingford and Brailsford Roads, neighbouring Brockwell Park. The Gardens are a valued space for the community, offering a place to plant vegetables and socialise.
Brockwell Booters
Brockwell Booters is a series of free Brockwell Park-based community football sessions, run by parents and enjoyed by children in our neighbourhood. The funds provided by Brockwell Live will go towards equipment and ongoing costs for this inclusive sports offering in the Park.
Brixton Chamber Orchestra
The Brixton Chamber Orchestra will be launching their immersive musical project called ‘The Music Trail’ in its original planned location, Brockwell Park. The Music Trail is a gamified music experience whereby the Brixton Chamber Orchestra is broken up into small groups, soloist, duos, trios, quartets and quintets, and hidden all over Brockwell Park. Participants will use a map and unlock clues by following the music and discovering different pockets of Brockwell Park. All clues will reveal the final secret location within Brockwell Park where the orchestra will come together to perform the final full group performance!
