Chisholm For President! is a live performance of songs from the brand new soul and funk musical inspired by 70s American political icon Shirley Chisholm. If you didn't already know; Shirley was the first Black Congresswoman who ran for the Democratic nomination in 1972, this musical celebrates the fierce passion that Shirley had for justice and how she forged the way for so many who followed in her footsteps. With a live band featuring incredible soul singer Rachel Modest (The Voice UK, 2022) and British funk legends The Haggis Horns, you’ll hear about the true story behind the wikipedia. With music and lyrics written by acclaimed rapper, composer and playwright Testament aka Andy Brooks whose previous work saw him alongside with Grammy winner Corinne Bailey Rae, J-Live and Soweto Kinch. Expect a soulful and raw soundtrack inspired by Curtis Mayfield, Aretha Franklin, Gil Scott-Heron, Minnie Ripperton and Sly & The Family Stone - with the inspiring words of civil rights pioneer Shirley Chisholm herself!
